What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It is sent back to the site on later visits so the site can recognise the browser. Browser local storage does a similar job but stays on your device and is not sent with each request. This policy covers both, because from your point of view they work the same way: something is kept on your device between visits.
Cookies are grouped by purpose. Essential cookies make the site work and cannot be switched off through the banner. Analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used. Functional cookies remember choices you make. The banner shown on your first visit lets you accept all, reject everything that is not essential, or choose category by category.
What this site uses
| Category | Name | Purpose | Set by | Duration | Control |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | ccr-consent (local storage) | Records whether you accepted, rejected or customised cookies so the banner is not shown again | This site | Until you clear site data | Runs without consent; clear browser data to remove |
| Essential | Hosting and security cookies | Load balancing and protection against automated abuse, where the hosting platform requires them | Hosting provider | Session or short-lived | Runs without consent; needed to serve pages |
| Analytics | Analytics cookies | When active, count page views and visits in aggregate, note how visitors arrive and which pages are read, without identifying individuals | Analytics provider, on our behalf | Varies by provider; typically session to long-lived | Off until you accept; switch off in Preferences at any time |
| Functional | Preference cookies | When active, remember settings you choose on the site, such as a display preference, so they persist between visits | This site | Long-lived | Off until you accept; switch off in Preferences at any time |
Analytics and functional cookies are only set after you have accepted them through the banner. Rejecting them means the site runs on essential storage alone, and every page still works. If we add or change a tool that sets cookies, this table is updated to describe it.
Changing your choice
Your choice is stored on your device. To change it, clear the site's data in your browser and the banner will appear again on your next visit, or open Preferences from the banner while it is shown and adjust each category. Rejecting or withdrawing consent stops new analytics or functional cookies from being set; cookies already on your device can be removed through your browser.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every mainstream browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and site data, either for all sites or for individual ones. The controls are usually under privacy or site settings.
- Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies or Site settings.
- Firefox: Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Preferences, then Privacy, then Manage Website Data; on iPhone and iPad, Settings, then Safari.
- Edge: Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
Blocking all cookies and storage will stop the site from remembering your cookie choice, so the banner will appear on each visit. Nothing else on the site depends on cookies to work. Your browser may also offer a "do not track" or global privacy control signal; where our tools can honour it, they will.
Third parties
We do not embed advertising, social media widgets or third-party maps, so no cookies are set by advertisers or social networks through this site. Links to external websites take you to sites with their own cookie practices, which we do not control. Where an analytics provider processes data for us, it does so under our instructions and is listed in the privacy policy.
